Steadfast Love💖

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”

Lamentations 3:22-24 English Standard Version

Love Prays

When we pray for others, there will be blessings😊

New International Version
After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.

I Kings 17:17-23 Christian Standard Bible

…the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. His illness got worse until he stopped breathing. She said to Elijah, “Man of God, what do you have against me? Have you come to call attention to my iniquity so that my son is put to death? ”

But Elijah said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him from her arms, brought him up to the upstairs room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. Then he cried out to the Lord and said, “Lord my God, have you also brought tragedy on the widow I am staying with by killing her son? ” Then he stretched himself out over the boy three times. He cried out to the Lord and said, “Lord my God, please let this boy’s life come into him again! ”

So the Lord listened to Elijah, and the boy’s life came into him again, and he lived. Then Elijah took the boy, brought him down from the upstairs room into the house, and gave him to his mother. Elijah said, “Look, your son is alive.”

Acts 9:36-41 Christian Standard Bible

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which is translated Dorcas). She was always doing good works and acts of charity. About that time she became sick and died. After washing her, they placed her in a room upstairs. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent two men to him who urged him, “Don’t delay in coming with us.” Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they led him to the room upstairs. And all the widows approached him, weeping and showing him the robes and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was with them. Peter sent them all out of the room. He knelt down, prayed, and turning toward the body said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, saw Peter, and sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her stand up. He called the saints and widows and presented her alive.

Young’s Literal Translation
but I — I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those accusing you falsely, and persecuting you.  Matthew 5:44

The Scapegoat

I’ve watched the movie, “The Scapegoat”, repeatedly…because it’s that good: cinematography, characters, and 5-star acting by the entire cast, which includes Matthew Rhys in the dual lead roles as both the “ethical man” and the “nefarious” one.  I’m now reading the book, authored by Daphne du Maurier–and so far, I prefer the film adaptation (which ends happily, and in my opinion, justly).

If you’re not familiar with the story, here is the synopsis copied from Google:

In Daphne du Maurier’s 1957 psychological suspense novel The Scapegoat, a lonely English academic named John accidentally meets his exact lookalike, French Comte Jean de Gué, in a provincial French hotel. After a night of drinking, Jean steals John’s identity, leaving him to navigate a chaotic life, including a dysfunctional family, a failing business, and a mysterious past.

Today a particular passage struck me:

“One had no right to play about with people’s lives. One should not interfere with their emotions.  A word, a look, a smile, a frown, did something to another human being, waking response or aversion, and a web was woven which had no beginning and no end, spreading outward and inward too, merging, entangling, so that the struggle of one depended on the struggle of the other.”

These words resonate within me so personally.  Ought we not to be most careful with interactions among people–whether those we know well, or strangers?  Words and behaviors carry weight and power, they can wound, or heal.

I cringe, remembering times I’ve been a victim–and others, when my heart of stone has cut someone like a knife.  Oh, that they would forget, and I might be forgiven, dear Lord.  The Bible reminds us over and over…because people forget.

Blessings to you all ~ Cale

Matthew 12:36-37

But I tell you that men will give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. / For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

Ephesians 4:29
Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up the one in need and bringing grace to those who listen.

Colossians 4:6
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Proverbs 12:18
Speaking rashly is like a piercing sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 15:4
A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

Proverbs 21:23
He who guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from distress.

Proverbs 13:3
He who guards his mouth protects his life, but the one who opens his lips invites his own ruin.

Proverbs 10:19
When words are many, sin is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.

Leaning

Now that I’m old, Age

is taking center stage

roles I’m allowed to play

bring due challenges

(but only every other day)–

no thank you, kind sir

don’t ask me to dance

it’s a tricky proposition

can’t trust my balance–

I’ve discovered one benefit

this perplexed-distressed season

(for in the Master’s plan

there’s always a blessed reason):

I’m learning

about LEANING–

when merely a youth, I was clueless

without a gentle person

on whom to depend…

but the Lord God of mercy

though His face be in shadow

promised to help me

all the way to the end–

He says, “lean on Me

and I’ll take you places

you never dreamed, imagined…

when you tire we’ll rest, never fret

Child, we’ve got time, and miles to go yet”💖

~ Cale

English Standard Version
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Isaiah 41:10
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

New Living Translation

And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20

New International Version
Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4

Psalm 92:12-15 Amplifed Bible

The righteous will flourish like the date palm [long-lived, upright and useful];

They will grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic and stable].

Planted in the house of the LORD,

They will flourish in the courts of our God.

[Growing in grace] they will still thrive and bear fruit and prosper in old age;

They will flourish and be [a]vital and fresh [rich in trust and love and contentment];

[They are living memorials] to declare that the LORD is upright and faithful [to His promises];

He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

The Wrong Brand!

https://girlieontheedge1.wordpress.com/2026/02/04/its-thursdays-six-sentence-story-blog-hop-57/

Oh it’s a grand day, and a great prompt from our host, the Brilliant Denise!  What’s the word?  BRAND!  So click the link if you’re unfamiliar with this weekly literary feast–get the info, write 6 sentences–and we’ll all gather for story-time.

And since everybody but me is Cold, I’ll try to warm you up with my episode of the continuing saga, starring Judd and Lorelei.

💖😠💕

“JUDD!”–the urgency in her voice drew him from his studio to the kitchen, where she stood–one hand fisted on her hip, the other holding up a can…and wearing the “wrath of Lorelei”; he smiled indulgently, “yes, Love?”

“What is THIS?” she snarled…and he was immediately transported back to Miss Thrumbull’s (retired US Marine Corp) English class on a pop-quiz day where the multiple-choice answers were designed so that the most obvious right one would always and forever be wrong…but you couldn’t count on that because, well, it was Miss Thrumbull.”

“It’s black olives, Love–you had it on the list…did you mean green ones?”

“This is NOT our brand–we only buy Pearl black olives–why did you get the store brand?” (her voice held a machete edge, much like Sgt. Thrumbell’s).

“They were on sale,” he tried, helpfully…(catching himself just before saying black olives are black olives, no considerable difference); she maintained her ridgid stance…and now she’d begun to resemble the unhinged Annie Wilkes in “Misery”; he well knew there were few options for redemption.

“I’ll be glad to return it and get the Pearl’s,”–he extended his hand for the violently rebuffed can she still gripped; “and when I come back, how ’bout some afternoon romance to make you feel better?” (he had 1 Viagra left)…her features softened, his exquisite Lorelei once more.

A Responsive Heart💖

New Living Translation
My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!  Psalm 57:7

Young’s Literal Translation
And I have given to them one heart, And a new spirit I do give in your midst, And I have turned the heart of stone out of their flesh, And I have given to them a heart of flesh.  Ezekiel 11:19

Amplified Bible
And I will give them one heart [a new heart], and put a new spirit within them. I will take from them the heart of stone, and will give them a heart of flesh [that is responsive to My touch]  Ezek 11:19

Tell it to my heart…

Their marriage was nearly dead it seemed–

dry as autumn twigs after summer’s wildfire

cold as January ash on unused hearth–

they went about life in the wordless home

as though living on separate planets–

So, what had shifted, she didn’t know…

maybe it was the moon that waxed

waned and winked now and then–

daylight had faded…too early for bed…

and suddenly he was standing in the doorway

staring at her with unreadable expression–

“Come out here,” he said–

saying nothing, she followed him

to the large kitchen they’d both

fallen in love with forever ago…

“dance with me”, he said softly

and pressing a button, their song

began playing: “tell it to my heart”…

A Valentine Story

It began with “hello”

just that

an ordinary greeting

ordinary day

ordinary-looking man–

no, not quite ordinary

he was helpful…

handy in ways

beyond her expertise

so, she thanked him

with her speciality…and

with every traded favor–

his chores, for her

tasty home-cooked meals–

he became more handsome

as she grew ever lovelier…

“hello” changed to

“I can help you with that”

and one day:

“how about we get married?”

she said, “yes”
