FROM LINDA:

Wow. It’s already the 19th of January, and time for the Just Jot it January 2026 daily prompt. Our prompt today is courtesy of running enthusiast Warren. Thank you, Warren! Please be sure to visit Warren’s blog to read his posts and say hello.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 19th, 2026 is “consistency.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

The consistency of faith

is like grandma’s taffy

Ingredients are boiled

till thick–then pulled

and stretched until

it’s shiny (like God’s grace

on a child’s face)–

Taffy is a chewy treat

tastes almost like

faith rewarded

 Sweet!

Crunching Cheez-Its In Church

Among the benefits of having access to church services online is that seniors and homebound folks don’t have to travel, and maneuver wheelchairs, walkers and such, amid parking lots and crowds of people.

And they can stay in their pajamas, not fuss with dressing up.

Some would argue a drawback:  they’re missing out on coffee and donuts in the fellowship hall when the service ends, or going to local restaurants for brunch with friends.

“Community” and “socializing” are important to varying degrees, depending on personality types…(neighbors could meet together in one person’s house, and eat potluck as they criticize  discuss the preacher’s sermon).

But I’m not one of them.  Okay, I confess to eye-rolling, sighing, occasional head-shaking.

However, I don’t wait till after the service if I’m hungry.  I “do” church in the recliner ‘pew’, and eat whatever I want (leftover pizza with pepperoni; pound cake; potato chips).

No one was bothered a’tall today, by me crunching Cheeze-It crackers (a perfectly respectable “communion wafer” substitute).

Really…?? I was supposed to eat just one? ~ Cale

It’s January 16th, and time for the 16th daily prompt for Just Jot it January 2026. Our prompt today is brought to us by the spectacular Sadje. Thank you, Sadje! Please be sure to visit Sadje’s blog to read her posts and say hello.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 16th, 2026 is “philosophy.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

~~🦉~~

Now, I can’t say I’ve heard this straight from the bird’s beak (not even a wize owl’s), but my observation is that crows have a philosophy:

“Don’t let winter stop you from getting down there on the square and picking at whatever treats might be found between chill green grass blades!  Picnickers are scarce in January.”

May-December Attraction

It was mutually alluring

the magnetic pull between

film-star handsome

older man, and younger

woman of head-snapping

beauty…

wherever they went people

stared, sometimes with smiles

of subtle envy–

Like soldered hearts

the match continued

through “better or worse”

they clung to each other

when Life’s sands shifted…

happy, content, grateful

in love…

And when Time

took the shine off

youthful good looks

they refused to mourn–

Decades after they’d maried

they laughed…thinking

their age difference

would have raised

eyebrows if reversed…

strangers’ admiring

glances turning aghast

if they mistook her

for his mother ~ Cale

Last Dream, Last Dance

Not sure I made the deadline, but I couldn’t resist #6:

https://thesoundofonehandtyping.com/2026/01/13/this-weeks-writers-workshop-prompts-january-13-2026/

Here are this week’s prompts:

  1. Write a post inspired by the word theory.
  2. Write a post in exactly sixteen (16) sentences.
  3. Write a story where a unique vessel takes you somewhere you’ve never before been.
  4. What do you wish you had more talent doing?
  5. When you’re by yourself, what do you usually think about?
  6. What was the last dream you can remember about?

😴💃The last dream I had was that I was dancing with Brad Pitt, which is beyond ridiculous:  I never even liked him, and I seriously cannot dance….and I’m way too old, or he’s way too young.

But it was a nice enough change from the usual deluge of nightmares🙄 Cale

Unusual Coupons

Back in my day we lived for, and by, coupons for groceries and other essentials.  It was a thrill to match them with our current needs, thinking about all we could buy on a stretched budget.

Today my crazy ageing brain wandered to “weird coupons”…

It might be exciting to wake up

some days and collect a different

kind of coupons from the mailbox

not ones for coffee or catfood or

likely-freezer-burn cabbage rolls–

Imagine the relief to find savings

on things like knots and wrinkles

typical of normal days

(abnormal ones not included)–

Here are a few you might

be interested in:

50% off negative feedback

“2 for 1” sale on profanity

(limited quantities)

10% off artificial smiles

but Look! there’s a

“manager’s overstock”

basket of eye-rolling…

The best one, to me, would be

75% off that troublesome

situation I still haven’t

found a positive and doable

solution for.

~ Cale

(If I’ve lost you, the idea is that all these things would be less distressing than usual…doable😉)
