“Further On”…

I don’t usually do movie reviews, and I’m not a big Bill Murray fan–but this one, “St Vincent” (2014, rated PG) is so good that I’ve watched it repeatedly.  Why?  Because the actor who plays “Oliver” (an “old soul”)–his debut role–absolutely carries, and makes this film fabulous.

Bill plays the curmudgeon, “Vin”, extremely well–so the contrast between Vin and young Oliver is striking, to say the least.  The movie is rough around the edges…but if you stay with it till the end, it’s sure to melt your heart because there’s a message for all of us in it.

“Saints are human beings”–perhaps when we show respect and love to humans who are unlikeable, we’ll have a positive impact on them…and thus they may become saints, after a fashion.

There’s the gamut of emotions on display in this film–and the music is familiar to most of us.  I particularly like the song, “Further On” (which was new to me)–so I offer it here with scenes from the film, and also the radio/lyric version in case you’re interested.  Hope you enjoy!

Music Manna

One of my first posts on this blog was about Jabez, and his prayer to God.  Well, I just watched a short documentary which fired me up again–so excited because it’s a powerful prayer.  I figured there had to be a song on YouTube about the Jabez prayer, so here’s the one I chose for y’all this Lord’s Day.  Enjoy–and Be Blessed!!

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez, saying, “Because I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my border [property], and that Your hand would be with me, and You would keep me from evil so that it does not hurt me!” And God granted his request.

Songs At the Altar

Happy Sunday, everyone is welcome!  This first music vid is my new favorite worship song–oooh, I just feel it all the way to my toes!!  Can’t keep my arms from raising, feet from dancing as I praise the Lord!

10 Things of Thankful

Ah yes, I’m a grateful gal!!

The “gigantor totes project” is nearly finished, and still thrilling me.  Thankful they are good quality plastic and quite reasonably priced…I probably only need 2 more, yippee!

Very thankful for my “Russian doll”, caregiver extraordinaire.  Even after falling and wounding both wrists she was still eager to help me–I felt a bit guilty, needing her to use the difficult can opener on 6 small cans of tuna last Monday, but she insisted so I sent her home with another home-baked cake.  Her big smile makes my heart happy!

And yesterday I learned she’s just as good with communication skills, as with shopping and household stuff.  That was a huge relief…I can tell her things, not keep them bottled up for fear she’ll quit.

Very grateful to have a good speaker at church today–the message was “What Do You See?”, and Pastor talked about how we view folks, impacts how we’ll treat them.  Do we see them through the lens of bias or bitterness?  We’re all made in God’s image, and we need to see everyone as HE sees them, with LOVE.

I ordered some yummy mini dumplings from Amazon–oh my, they’re like small potstickers filled with seasoned chicken and cabbage…delightful!

The temps were cold…then last night warmed up and we have serious rain–all of which I’m thankful for indeed (no snow).

I managed to finish the 1000-piece puzzle (with much frustration–but hey, squinting through cataracts, that’s a grateful victory)!

Both of my neighbor’s cats are in heat…after a 2-day absence, they were quite happy to see me (not sure what that means, but I’ll take it as a positive–they weren’t snarling at me).

Thankful for blogging:  the socializing (within my comfort limits), and knowing I can still “write something”.

Always and ever grateful that I’m a beloved child of God, and He is for me!

Mardi Gras/Zydeco Music!

My late cousin would never forgive me if I let Mardi Gras go past without a mention.  It’s the last party before Ash Wednesday (Lent begins), a wildly crazy and colorful celebration no matter where you choose to partake–you don’t have to go to New Orleans!  The parades are a lavish spectacle–and the food…well there’s just nothing like it.

I’ve never been to Mardi Gras, actually–I don’t need quite that much wild and crazy jubilation.  However, I am half-Cajun (I can testify to the food), and I enjoy lively zydeco music (and watching couples dance to it).  There’s no way you can sit still–it will grab you, and your feet start moving without permission.

So Theresa, I miss you more than I can say.  And if you’re still watching over me–I didn’t make a pot of gumbo this year but I’m bringing the music, and my Cajun-side is dancing in the Upper Room!  Say “hi” to Aunt Lucy & Uncle Harrison–I hear tell they lived for “dancing to that French music”.💖

Elevation Church ~ 20 Years of Ministry!

I am so excited to share this video from last week at Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC!   An online member for a number of years, I consider it my long-distance “home church”–and Pastor Steven Furtick’s messages get better every week.  He’s genuine, humble, honest, and humorous–and he knows the Bible inside out.  He wears his heart and his faith on his sleeve, and I’ve been deeply blessed by how he ministers God’s Word.

I hope you enjoy their amazing gospel music team, and hearing about all that the Lord has done through a young couple–Steven and Holly–who were only 25 when they felt called to start a church, and had only 19 folks with them.  The story is moving, filled with miracles and the favor of God on faith-filled people.  And they are the first to give All Glory to GOD!

God’s Love💖 ~ Super Glue

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,p neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38-39
