Confession

January 21, 2026

Shall I confess

make blatant admission…

oh I’m not proud, indeed I despair:

I don’t excell at brevity–There!

I’ve too many words rolling round

in my head…sprouting roots

that will bud somewhere…and then

I know not when, but surely

sometime…the jabberer within

(is it gift, a curse?

perhaps my best friend)

will rise from murky dregs

of sleep, or confused mood

(as to which thoughts to keep)

and cerebral garden’s

soon overrun again

with vine-like words that creep

because...they’re simply not

disposed to be brief–

Must I resist 50 words

when 5 might nicely do?

A “wordy-birdy”…

I’ve pondered deep

this life-long mystery–

and I don’t have one clue!

Would curses wound less

if they were unspoken?

Are blessings worth less

if left unspoken?

It’s the thought that counts

so the saying goes–

but kind words of truth

or ones which speak

genuine affirmation

can redeem a bad day

…even save a life

that’s falling away

The consistency of faith

is like grandma’s taffy  

Ingredients are boiled

till thick–then pulled

and stretched until

it’s shiny (like God’s grace

on a child’s face)–

Taffy is a chewy treat

tastes almost like

faith rewarded

Prepaid Home

A sweeter deal I’ll never find:

prepaid home eternal, mine–

the price to Builder?  EVERYTHING

His Son on cross, pain echoing…

sound of pounding nails resounds

today in hearts where His shed blood

beats song of salvation, victory.

I’m no longer poor wanderer, stranger lost–

a heavenly mansion waits for me

dressed in glory, grace…and great, the cost.

Jesus, true Savior paid it all–

everyday I wake, call Him LORD

and thank Him for what I

could never afford.

May-December Attraction

It was mutually alluring

the magnetic pull between

film-star handsome

older man, and younger

woman of head-snapping

beauty…

wherever they went people

stared, sometimes with smiles

of subtle envy–

Like soldered hearts

the match continued

through “better or worse”

they clung to each other

when Life’s sands shifted…

happy, content, grateful

in love…

And when Time

took the shine off

youthful good looks

they refused to mourn–

Decades after they’d maried

they laughed…thinking

their age difference

would have raised

eyebrows if reversed…

strangers’ admiring

glances turning aghast

if they mistook her
