2 Samuel 22:31
As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.

For those like me, who enjoy reading various translations/versions of Bible scripture, here is Psalm 46:1 with different phrasings:

God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.  Amplified Bible

Young’s Literal Translation
God is to us a refuge and strength, A help in adversities found most surely.

Seagulls Crying

From Hagar ~

In half-sleep she heard

the seagulls crying, sound

of distress unsettling her…

so brief, then nothing–

she wondered if she’d

only imagined the cries

but they wouldn’t leave her…

over several days

she thought of them

had her birds tried to send

her a message, like winged

prophets…was it harbinger

of coming loss perhaps…

she’d waited so long

for their return

would not have wanted

to miss even one word…

not in this strange

impassioned winter

its contradictory silence…

its restless wonderings–
